Pharmacist Malpractice

Pharmacist malpractice cases are becoming more and more frequent.  Research suggests that the high number of prescriptions filled daily by often overworked, stressed employees has contributed to this rise. Other factors include the frequency in which brand name and generic drugs are changed out and the similarity of medication names.

According to the Institute of Medicine, negligence by a pharmacist is causing an estimated 7,000 deaths per year. A study by Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company of over 500 pharmacist malpractice claims identified the following types of errors:

  • Wrong Drug Dispensed
  • Wrong Strength Dispensed
  • Wrong Directions Given

Individuals rely on pharmacists to provide the correct dosage and type of medication. When lives are endangered by pharmaceutical mistakes, those responsible should be held liable. If you feel you were the victim of pharmacist malpractice please contact an attorney to determine your legal rights.
